In addition to encouraging active participation in culture and community, disCOARSE believes that innovators in both areas need to be recognized. Grants and awards for individual artists, which allow for the pursuit of particular projects or ease the burden of a creative mind engaged in non-commercial work, are almost non-existent in Santa Fe and the surrounding area. Equivalent awards for community activists, planners and policy innovators are almost unheard of.

If a true committment to ongoing quality of life, economic development and support for arts and culture and creative entrepreneurs is to be demonstrated within this community, the individuals who exemplify leadership, innovation and exceptional promise should be recognized for their efforts and endeavors. Attracting and retaining talented, creative individuals, families and small businesses is the core of Santa Fe's future as a successful and dynamic city.

10% of all advertising and product revenue that disCOARSE earns will go into an account designated to be the cash portion of these awards. Each year a panel will be convened to decide what categories awards should be given in, how to hone suggestions from the community into a list of finalists and winners, and how the funds should be proportioned. Stay tuned for a decision on which community foundation will be tapped to handle the fund, and information on how you may contribute. All comments and input are welcome: a better community, as designed by the community, is the whole point.
